Looking Back at Disney from Burnsland!

Remember what the Disney parks were like back in the good old days? Join us as we take a stroll down memory lane in photos from the Burnsland collection.

I began taking photos at the parks in 1987, back when there were only two Walt Disney World parks. And I have continued taking photos on each of our visits since that time. Things have changed over the years, so this is a way to document the way things were.

Looking for a specific park? Check out posts from Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios (now known as Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Laura and I took a trip to Walt Disney World in June 1996. We actually visited the Magic Kingdom on two separate days during our trip (Remember back when there were only 3 parks? Or even further back when there were only 2 parks? Or only one park? Okay, so the one park days were before my time.). During our visits, we had some sun and some rain, just what you would expect from Central Florida weather.

Because Christmas is right around the corner, let’s turn the calendar back to 1998 and take a look back at Christmas decorations in the parks at Walt Disney World! All of these photos were taken in one single day, as I visited three parks that day. Although Animal Kingdom had opened earlier that year, I didn’t go there, wanting to save my first visit for when I had more time to spend there and Laura was with me.

Looking Back: Epcot in 1995

Time for another Looking Back post, this time looking at Epcot at Walt Disney World in 1995. By this time, the name had changed from EPCOT Center to just plain, mostly lower case Epcot. Changes were underway in the park as things were starting to change direction somewhat. These photos were from two different visits in 1995, one in April and one in August. And apparently on both of those visits I spent all of my time in World Showcase, because I have no photos at all from Future World for either of those trips.

Time for another Looking Back adventure, this time around from the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in August of 1995. Hard to believe that was now 20 years ago! Let’s take a look around and see what we can see. Welcome to the Magic Kingdom! You know the old saying that you can’t see the forest for the trees? Well here, you almost can’t see Cinderella Castle for all of the trees in the Central Plaza (also known as the Hub).

The Looking Back series returns with a look at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World from 20 years ago, with these photos from April 1995. I was there as a chaperon on a high school band trip, enjoying the lighter crowds and slightly cooler weather. New Tomorrowland was still new, and lots of other things were happening all over the park. Let’s take a look! Welcome to the Magic Kingdom, as we arrive by ferryboat across Seven Seas Lagoon.

Time for another entry in the Looking Back series! This time, we take a look at Disney-MGM Studios at Walt Disney World in these photos from our visit in 1992. Here we are just inside the park at the Crossroads of the World. I have always liked how this photo turned out with the balloons in the foreground. I would like to say I spent lots of time working on the composition here.

Time once again for another post in the Looking Back series, this time looking at EPCOT Center from 1992. The name change to “Epcot” was still a few years away, and the original concept for the park was still going strong. Take a look to see what has changed, and what has remained the same. Good morning from EPCOT Center! This photo was taken in between the Communicore buildings (now known as Innoventions), in case you don’t recognize it without all of those banner/streamer things overhead.

Time once again for another Looking Back post, this time taking a look at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in 1992. There were several new things that year, with some others on the way. Let’s take a look! Welcome to the Magic Kingdom! As you can see, Main Street Stationis all decorated for Walt Disney World’s 20th Anniversary Celebration. And hidden back behind those candles is the Walt Disney World Railroad’s Engine No.

Welcome back to the Looking Back series, this time with lots of photos from the Disney-MGM Studios (now known as Disney’s Hollywood Studios, of course) at Walt Disney World in 1991. How many photos? How about 29! Because you can’t have too many old photos, right? As with the past 1991 entries in this series, these photos were from a trip in April and a trip in June of that year.

The Looking Back series returns with a look at EPCOT Center from back in 1991. At this time, the park was less than 10 years old, and its name hadn’t yet been officially shortened to “Epcot,” although most people probably called it that, anyway. As with the Magic Kingdom photos from 1991, these photos come from two different trips in that year, one in April and one in June. Enjoy!
